Description

In Zellenberg, in 1785, Thomas Rentz became fascinated by winemaking, so much so that he set up his own vineyard and produced wines for his family and also some local taverns. From 1920, Edmond Rentz then enlarged the size of their enterprise, and began to modernise their processes, placing his name on each bottle, creating the Edmond Rentz brand. The vineyard was extended again in 1953 when his son Raymond Rentz took over. Raymond worked hard to improve the quality of the wines, utilising both vines and terroirs to his advantage. Nowadays, the Edmond Rentz estate consists of 27 hectares of vines spread out across the heart of Alsace. The vineyard produces 11 varieties of grapes, including traditional local varietals such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris.

They have committed to a process of high environmental value (HVE), which is an accreditation that recognises environmental preservation. As such, the winemaking methods used are respectful of the vine, soil and environment. This ethos allows them to peacefully practice their winemaking craft by producing healthy and authentic wines, which express the aromatic purity of the vine and unearths the terroir’s spirit. These methods alongside the painstaking lengths they go to to select and harvest the grapes when they reach full maturity has helped to develop premium quality wines, with a subtleness and fullness that place them amongst France’s finest wines.
